The Eastern Queens Alliance is in the fourth season of its Natural Classroom Workshops funded through the New York City Environmental Fund, legislative grants and Con Edison. Through this project we offer local elementary, middle and high schools a series of hands-on workshops which provide an unforgettable science experience.

Workshops are available for students in grades K-8. They can be customized to fit the specific needs of specific classes and age groups. With each program, you and your students will take part in three (3) or four (4) ninety minute hands - on workshops. The last session of the series of three or four workshop sessions will be a field trip to Idlewild Park Forever Wild Preserve.

Idlewild In-classroom Workshops

Wetlands, Estuaries and Watersheds: Through this project 15 high school students are privileged to participate in hands-on, inquiry—based environmental science workshops using Idlewild Park as its laboratory. The workshop is facilitated by our own specially trained project staff. It offers unique “natural” opportunities for students to learn about the salt marsh and fresh water wetlands found in Idlewild Park as well as the estuary and watershed of which they are a part.

Highschool Workshops

During the summer, children of the community participate in a free workshop series. These workshops aim to teach our youth about the secret treasures that lie in their own backyard. We hope to spark their interest in environmental science so that we will see more enter the scientific fields in the future. Participants range from 2nd grade to 10th grade.
