Young People’s Workshops

In Springfield Park

Beginning in 2004, Idlewild Park Environmental Center has hosted a series of summer science workshops for the youth of the community. Two free six session workshops are offered to children ranging in age from 7-14. Workshops are offered twice a week, usually on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Every year topics change so visit the site to keep posted.

Sample Summer Workshop Topics:

· Session 1: Wonders of Wetlands—Through the enjoyable hands-on activities, participants will learn about the hidden secrets of the seasons of wetlands. Young people will learn about the many plants and animals that live and breed in these special places.

· Session 2: Staying Alive in Nature — Children will learn about the fascinating ways animals and plants use to stay alive in their special habitats. Special emphasis will be placed on the salt marsh.

· Summer Teen Workshop—The teen workshop will be a twelve-session series on Wetlands, Estuaries & Watersheds.
